Simple ways to get rid of an oily scalp

If your scalp feels oily or greasy no matter how much you wash your hair, the glands on your scalp that produce sebum is overworking. This can either be genetic or caused by a lack of hydration and moisture in your scalp. Excessive sebum production can further cause dandruff and give you an itchy scalp.

You are probably also fed up with your hair looking like it hasn’t been washed in days. If you are looking for simple and effective ways to get rid of an oily scalp, you have come to the right place because we have some simple solutions for your oily scalp.

Avoid overusing your conditioner and use coconut oil instead

If you are using a lot of conditioners, especially on the scalp where it just doesn’t belong, you might be causing your scalp to produce more natural oil than it should. Replace the conditioner with coconut oil. Apply it to your scalp for 15 to 20 minutes before showering and it will help with the production of excess sebum. It also works as a conditioner and gives that extra shine to your hair.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera may be the simplest solution to any skin issue there is, and you can also find it quite easily – maybe even in your garden! Because it has so many nourishing properties, it helps give your scalp the hydration it needs and stops excess oil production.

Lemon juice

Lemon has citric acid, and its acidic property keeps oil and grease away from your scalp. Mix 3 to 4 tablespoons of lemon juice in a spray bottle. Spray it on your scalp and leave it for 10 minutes before rinsing. Use this mixture when your scalp feels oilier than usual. This mixture can also be used to prevent, and get rid of, dandruff.

Caution: Do not sit under the sun after applying lemon juice as it can bleach your hair.

Gentle washing

Washing your hair too often or not washing properly can cause excessive sebum production. When washing, use a small amount of a mild shampoo and don’t scrub your scalp too harshly. If you are running late, use dry shampoo that sucks up all the oil at once. If you don’t have dry shampoo, you can use corn starch or baby powder and run a wide-toothed comb lightly over.

You know what works best for your hair, so avoid products that weigh down your hair and make it look flat and greasy. Also, avoid touching your hair excessively as it can transfer germs and oil and dirt from your hand to your head. Trying these simple tricks can help you get rid of an oily scalp effectively.
