How to prepare hair for your wedding day

You have been preparing for the big day for almost the day after you got engaged. From shopping for the dream wedding gown, planning and selecting the venue and catering, to selecting a makeup artist for bridal makeup, and talking to photographers who capture the magical moments from the most important day of your life, you have been quite busy. But don't forget to prepare your hair for closeup photographs at the party!

You want your hair to look its best – glossy, healthy, and just insta-worthy! There are some tips from hairdressers you can try to prepare your hair leading up to your big day!

Protect your hair

With all the shopping and going out in the sun, don't forget to protect your hair with a scarf or a hat, especially if it's summer. Prolonged exposure to sun rays can cause permanent hair damage in the form of brittle strands, discoloration (especially if you have dyed your hair or have your hair chemically treated), frizziness, thinning, and, most importantly, drying out your hair.

Condition or Oil to keep hair moisturised

A few weeks leading up to the big day, make some time out to deep condition your hair with a thick conditioner or use a good leave-in hair oil treatment for that extra glossiness.

Use hair masks

DIY hair masks are another simple and easy way to keep hair healthy and moisturized. The easiest DIY hair mask is mixing an egg with a spoon of olive oil, and either a spoon of aloe vera or honey.

Hair washing tips

Instead of washing your hair on the day of the wedding, wash/ shampoo a day before the big day as freshly washed hair is a bit difficult to style. If, for some reason, you wash your hair on the same day, use very little shampoo and conditioner. Or simply use a dry shampoo. If you have fine hair, use a volumizing shampoo and ask your hairdresser to use a crimper at the base to make them look fuller.  If you have super frizzy hair, let your hairstylist know so that they can use an anti-frizz or humidity-resistant spray.

Hairstyling tips

When booking an appointment with a hairstylist, show them a picture of what you would like to have the final look be like, and any accessory (like flowers, or hair pins, etc.) you want in your hair.
