Healthy hair care habits to teach your kids

Ever wondered how different your life would be if you took care of your hair from a very early age, picked out a healthy routine, and followed it religiously? Yes, you would have healthier hair at this age. Children’s hair is not just different, but also easier to take care of. But as your kids are growing and learning and having the attitude to do it all on their own, it’s a good time to teach them healthy hair care habits so they take care of their hair and get their confidence boost when they flaunt it.

Avoid chemical

The most important and basic hair habit is to avoid chemicals. Children have a sensitive scalp and even a small amount of chemical-based products can cause longer and permanent damage to their hair.

Rinse well

Always rinse off shampoos and conditioners well off your hair before stepping out of the shower even if it means doing it one more time. This will ensure there is no remaining chemical or dirt left to damage your scalp and hair.

Be gentle

Not just kids, everyone should love their hair as they are. But children are great at remembering if taught from early on. Teach your child to be gentle with their hair, which means:

  • Use a hat, scarf, cap, or a bandana to cover head under the sun as direct sunlight is as bad for their hair as their skin
  • No pulling on them while detangling
  • No tying them up tightly
  • Rubbing too hard with a towel can make the hair frizzy and cause it to fall so use a cotton tee shirt to dry hair
  • Let it air dry naturally as using a hairdryer directly on wet hair can leave hair dry and frizzy
  • Don’t brush wet hair as it is the most vulnerable state their hair can be in
  • Don’t tie up wet hair as it will tangle hair

Use a wide-tooth comb on wet hair to avoid breakage. Check our Roils wide-tooth comb that allows for gentle brushing and reduces hair pulling and damaged hair strands.

Hydration and nutrition

Hydration and nutrition are the keys to having healthy hair. When all the needs of hydration and nutrition are met, their hair will be healthier and stronger from the beginning.

Get rid of lice

Lice are quite common among children as they get more worked up and not very careful about keeping their hair clean. Treat lice as soon as you see it, either with a medicated anti-lice shampoo or by manually pulling them out with a close-toothed comb, but quick as they tend to multiply very quickly.

Brushing

Teach your children to always brush their hair before bed as it helps blood circulation in the scalp and promotes hair growth. Start from the bottom and work all the way to the top will help remove the knots gently along the way.

If your child has curly hair, a wide-toothed comb works the best. For straight hair, use a brush with smaller teeth. Gentle pulling with a simple hairbrush also does the job.

Trimming

Trimming hair at least once in two months for girls, and once a month for boys will reduce their split ends, let hair grow faster, and makes the ends appear even and thick.

Healthy hair demands care that your children can do with regular oiling, shampooing, and proper brushing. With a little bit of care and guidance from your side, your child can have a healthy hair that they don’t have to hide under a cap or a hat.
