DIY hair masks for healthy hair

It’s not so easy to keep your hair looking flawless with harsh weather, sunlight, stress, and pollution. Though there are products in the market that promise damage-free hair, there is an even better option – do-it-yourself hair masks. They say the best products can be made just with the ingredients in your kitchen. Seemingly hard, these are quite easy to make.

DIY hair masks treat your hair concerns easily, and most importantly, affordably. These hair masks contain all the ingredients to nourish and hydrate those gorgeous locks without worrying if the harsh chemicals in those store-bought masks would cause more damage than any good. Ready to find out which ingredients you need for your hair problems?

Coconut Oil and Honey

Coconut oil contains fatty acids to soften your hair and prevent damage, and honey infuses your hair with moisture. A combination of these two is magic to your dry and frizzy hair!

  1. Mix both ingredients equally according to your hair length.
  2. Apply from top to bottom for 20 minutes before rinsing it off with a mild shampoo.

Egg, Olive Oil and Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise is for that extra nourishment and shine when you’re hoping to step out with your hair down. Eggs have the proteins your dry hair has been craving, and so does olive oil! This mask is the perfect mixture to lock in some extra moisture, prevent split ends and boost hair growth.

  • Combine 1 egg, ¼ cup of olive oil, and half a cup of mayonnaise and apply the mixture on your hair.
  • Let it sit for 20 minutes before washing with a mild shampoo.

Gooseberry, Coconut Oil, and Shikakai

Gooseberry (also known as amla) is a rich source of vitamin C and antitoxins. These are great for a healthy scalp and thinning hair. Coconut oil helps moisturise and nourish, while shikakai gives that extra strength to the roots.

  • Boil one tablespoon each of amla and shikakai powder. Let it cool off before adding 2 tablespoons of coconut oil.
  • Massage this mixture on your scalp before sleeping.
  • Rinse it off with a mild shampoo in the morning.

Flaxseeds Lemon Juice

Flax seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and proteins - all that you can ask for thicker, fuller hair. It also keeps dandruff under control and increases hair elasticity.

  • Boil flax seeds soaked in water overnight
  • When it thickens, reduce the heat, and add a few drops of lemon juice to it.
  • Turn the heat off after a minute and let it cool down before adding a few drops of an essential oil of your choice (optional).
  • Apply and leave it overnight and rinse off in the morning with a mild shampoo.
