Are you oiling your hair right?

Your grandmother never gets tired of reminding you how good oil is for your hair and she's absolutely right. Hair oils have been used for generations to promote hair growth and address hair problems like dry, brittle, and dull-looking dead hair. Hair oil protects your hair from damage. It protects your hair from the damage that occurs from the chemical products we use on a daily basis.

Just like our body needs nutrition it takes from a healthy diet, hair needs oil to make sure it stays healthy and hydrated. It avoids breakage, keeps your hair moisturised, and protects your hair from sun damage. A good hair massage with oil even prevents headaches and if you have one then you can get it fixed with just a good massage.

We love getting a hot hair oil treatment over the weekend after a long tiring week, but do you know if you are oiling your hair the correct way? Here are some tips to help you oil your hair right.

  • Choose a natural oil according to your hair type and the weather condition. Don't use coconut oil in winter as it might cause dry and flaky scalp.
  • If you have super dry scalp, you can use a good amount of oil. But don't use too much as it can be a struggle to wash off.
  • A good massage with your fingertips on a circular motion is the key. Continue this for 15 to 20 minutes for further relaxation.
  • The oil which is left on your palm, apply it on your hair especially on your split ends.
  • Cover your hair with a shower cap or even with a towel (prefer face towel because of the size). You can leave it overnight, but 3 to 4 hours of penetration in the hair follicles is more than enough.
  • Rinse off the oil with your usual shampoo thoroughly. This might take a while.
  • Use a moisturising conditioner for better results.
